The Harris Gin bottle is as classic as the Gin inside

Put some class into your gin shelf with the very iconic Gin bottle that everyone should own

Harris Gin available at the True OriGINs Gin Festivals

Harris Gin is for sure one of the most collectible gins to try from the many small batch Scottish distilleries making waves in the world of gin.

Every drop is distilled in Tarbert in a small copper gin still, known affectionately as 'The Dottach' after a similarly fiery and feisty local woman, a classic way to distill gin.

The Dottach imbues the Harris spirit with the complex delights of nine carefully chosen botanicals that aim to capture the elemental nature of the Isle of Harris island, particularly the maritime influences of the seas which surround the community.

Of all the botanicals, the one that brings the greatest character to the gin is Sugar kelp which is key to the subtle coastal notes that mark out the spirit.

The kelp is hand-harvested by a local diver from the deep underwater forests of the Outer Hebrides, this natural and sustainable ingredient completes the wider aspects of the gin's flavour profile and gives the gin a wonderful style.

Unlike many gin-makers, the distillers at Harris Gin discard, instead of recycling the 'heads' and 'tails' of the spirit run, leaving only the very best of the distillate's 'heart', this is a 100% premium gin!

Harris Gin captures all this wonderfully cared for gin in a beautiful glass bottle, ribbed and rippled like the seas of Luskentyre, a gentle azure rising from its depths. There are subtle imperfections, dimples and dips to hold it safely while you pour a generous measure of the Harris Gin.

Harris Gin is a gin to enjoy

The label is simple, but original, you will struggle to find any two alike, each individually flecked with fragments of copper leaf and Sugar Kelp.

A latin motto to live by hides beneath the reassuring weight of the base, while a simple wood and cork stopper is sealed with the coordinates of our distillery's location, guarantee that this a truly Outer Hebridean gin.

The final result is a smooth and complex spirit which is wonderful to enjoy on its own or with a few drops of Sugar Kelp Aromatic Water to heighten the subtle coastal notes in your glass.

Tasting notes

A well-defined juniper note with pine needles, immediately followed by the fresh citrus notes of bitter orange, lime and grapefruit. Develops a complex floral note of rose and wallflowers with crushed green herbs, coriander and gooseberry all underpinned by mixed spice. Sugar kelp adds to the complexity and richness and gives a dry maritime note.

Refreshing gin with good balance between the bitter juniper and pine and the sweet fruit flavours of mango, grapefruit and orange. A green herb flavour has developed of crushed coriander. Distinctive and smooth with a dry, flinty taste.

Overall a long, clean finish. As the juniper and citrus fade away, sweet vanilla and black pepper remain with a gentle reminder of the sea.
